New Year’s Resolutions
2009 Resolutions:
- Phase meat and dairy out of my regular diet (I have a year, not cold turkey). FAIL
- Save money. I’m tired of living paycheck to paycheck. WIN
- Make the non-profit org I started official. WIN
- Upgrade my job. I either need a new one or a raise. FAIL
- Get back to Jiu-Jitsu (This depends a lot on resolution 2 and 4, but I miss it so). FAIL
X-mas in the south
Had a really good time in my hometown with Faye over the holidays.
We were sad to go.
While I was down there I finally updated my web design page. That was nice and productive.

Getting a paypal button to validate
Thank you paypal for supplying us with code that won’t validate.
To fix this, just use the “email link” they provide as well.
Save their button image and make it link to the “email link”
rather than using their improper form code.
Google’s Chrome browser
Google has a new browser in beta called Chrome. Seems pretty neat but I have yet to really sink my teeth into it.
Reason #4,136 why Internet Explorer sucks
Fun experiment:
- Try making a form that has an image for a submit button and captures all relevant data in Firefox, Netscape, Mozilla, or Safari
- Now do the same thing in Internet Explorer
- How many work-arounds did you have to use? (from 1 to impossible depending on what it’s for)
- How reliable are they? (never 100%)
- How many would you have needed if IE followed w3c standards? (0)
(technically this is aimed at Opera too, you IE wannabe…)
An “Evil” Job?
I swear it’s like I work with the Phantom of the Opera or the Wicked Witch or something.
I’m just sitting here coding, trying to concentrate, and all I hear all day at random intervals is maniacal laughter….
What the hell people? SHUT UP! LOL
Preloaded software…
I appreciate preloaded software on a new PC like I appreciate prescratched paint on a new car.
Why can’t you order a pc with windows without getting useless proprietary software from the people who sold it to you (dell, hp, etc).
Useless programs are the enemy, 99% of setup should not involve just deleting things.
Non profit org for families in need
It started as just volunteering to do web design for a local charitable non-profit, but ended up with me being on the board of directors. I just attended my first meeting.
The group organizes fun events (very golf-centric) and then donates the proceeds to needy families (something they had been doing before he made it an official non-profit)
Still waiting on 501c3 status (applied for). Edit: We were granted 501(c)3 status.
