LASIK: Eye Bruising

Here are a couple neat pics of my eye-bruises from LASIK surgery.

This is perfectly normal, harmless, painless, and goes away in a couple of weeks.

It is simply blood that has rushed to the surface when they held my eyeball still by exposing it to a slight vacuum.

Eye Bruises

Jeepers, creepers, where'd ya get them peepers? At peepers-r-us of course!

LASIK: The Day After

I had my next-day check-up and wow, I see better now than I did with my glasses. 20/15 in fact, which is better than normal 20-20 vision.

Sweet…

This prompted me to dig into how vision is tested since I always assumed 20/20 was perfect and anything else (20/15 for example) would be bad. I also assumed that was left-eye (20)/right-eye(20) which also turned out to be wrong.

20/20 means that you see as well from 20 feet as what doctors consider “a normal person” sees from 20 feet.

20/15 means I see as well from 20 feet as a “normal person” sees from 15.

While 20/20 is average there is variation, and some rare people naturally have eyes as good as 20/8.

They estimate the vision of eagles at 20/2.

LASIK Success!

Everything went well in surgery, much better than I expected actually, it was a walk in the park.

Normally my eyes are very easily irritated, even just watching someone put in eyedrops makes them water.

But this was totally easy, no problem, and even though things are a bit hazy today I can notice the difference!

New Year’s Resolutions

2009 Resolutions:

  1. Phase meat and dairy out of my regular diet (I have a year, not cold turkey). FAIL
  2. Save money. I’m tired of living paycheck to paycheck. WIN
  3. Make the non-profit org I started official. WIN
  4. Upgrade my job. I either need a new one or a raise. FAIL
  5. Get back to Jiu-Jitsu (This depends a lot on resolution 2 and 4, but I miss it so). FAIL

New Skatepark

Maybe the new location work moved to isn’t so bad after all. Yesterday I found a really nice free skatepark about 2 minutes away!

Consistency told me I was a little rusty, and my muscles this morning told me I was a little out of shape, but I think I can fix both of those since I know where a free park is close to work now!

26 miles aint that bad.

So I’ve started riding my bike to work. I can tell I’ll be in great shape from this, but it’s more because the consistency of exercise, not because it is super-hard.

Honestly my butt hurts more than my legs, stupid bike seats…

My goals are:

  • To be in better shape when I can afford to return to jiu-jitsu than I was in when I left.
  • To cut my time to under an hour (I take 1hr 20min now)

10 Mile Ride

I decided to see how far I could bike towards work in 1 hour last night. I made it 10.25 miles.  I wasn’t really that tired or sweaty afterward either.

Since work is only 3 more miles away, I have determined that I can easily make the 13 mile trip to work if I can get up early enough for an hour and a half commute.

Yay free transportation and free excercise!

Boo high gas prices!
