There was a Jorge Gurgel seminar this past weekend.
That guy is hilarious btw, instead of acting all proffesional with a stick up his butt he was cracking jokes left and right.
“If you do it like this, good, if you do it like this, that’s retarded, you’re in a big pile of shit if you do it this way” lol.
Well, it’s funnier with his Brazilian accent.
Anyway, I got a stripe on my belt, which I really wasn’t expecting because I’ve always heard he doesn’t promote people he’s just met. Pretty sure Clint put in a good word for me.

I got second place, but hurt my neck.
I don’t mind getting second, I got third at my last tourney so it’s a step up.
next time it might be gold.
——————————
1st match – close call but the guy got the takedown on me (2 pts). We roll around for a while, he’s in my guard. I’m working a choke that’s close, hes trying to pass but everytime he does I start to reverse him so he stops. Finally when I think the whole round is gonna stay like that, with him 2pts ahead. I get a reversal (2pts) he goes for an armbar, almost gets it, but I spin out and attain the knee-on-chest position (2 pts), then after I hold it long enough for pts I go to full mount (4 pts) and I’m way ahead. I start going for a choke and he taps before I do anything, apparantly the knee on chest bruised his sternum or some shit.
——————————
now my neck hurts a little from the reversal and my elbow kills from the near-armbar.
——————————
2nd match – guy gets the takedown (2 pts) tries for the sidemount and I wont let him have it. we rolla round and he ends up full mount (4 pts) so hes way ahead in points, but I do my nifty thing I always do in full mount, it’s a weird reversal where I roll us both over backwards, and I end up in perfect position to leglock him. it took a few moments to sink it because I was trying not to commit some weirdly specific infraction they have with the leglocks (apparantly they don’t like it when you wrap your outside leg around his, when you go for an ankle lock, just the inside leg. which is weird because I usually wrap both.), but I get it, here a pop come from his ankle, and he taps. Well actually I let go when I heard the pop, but apparantly it turns out he tapped just then anyway.
——————————
at this point my neck hurts like a bitch, from rolling back over it with both our weight on me. Im stretching it and shit trying to make it right before my last match.
its not TOO bad though, because of adrenaline etc. and Im on cloud nine now because I destroyed the first two guys, if I do it 1 more time I get gold. That was a really good feeling, like I was just walking through the guys. and that even if I died now I would still get 2nd, which is really plenty to make me happy seeing how I got 3rs last tourney.
——————————
3rd match – I go for a judo throw, he gets my back, I reverse him before he settles for a 4 pt back mount. I get him in my half guard, we screw around there for a while, he passes it as I get it on the other leg, so haha, still there. he gets full mount and I do the same thing as last match. his coach saw the last match and hes warning him not to let me do that but I totally get the reversal anyway. we roll right into a leglock I can’t really isolate the limb very well (see weird leglock rule above) and he gets one on me. So were both ankle locking each other and he gets it. He was pretty cool though and won fair and square, we talked for a long while before and after the match, (and again at the awards ceramony). nice enough guy. (but I’m going to beat him next time I see him)
——————————
so I go change back into my streetclothes right after the match, my adrenaline wears off, and all the sudden my neck totally sucks. It’s not even the muscle kinda suck you can just rub, I think it is either a nerve or a disk or some shit with the spine. In the 3rd match I did the same thing that hurt it in the second (rolling backwards over my neck with both our weight on me) and that just made it worse.
now I’m a cripple, please throw spare change in my can.
Edit: It’s OK for me to joke about being a cripple because my dad was a cripple.

Managed to medal at the nationals!
Yeah it’s only 3rd but you know I had to choke the guy who got 4th for this! Totally they had to help him off the mat!
I beat 2 guys and 1 guy beat me so it’s official; I’m twice as good as I am bad.
