Saturday the guys from our local Street Fighter scene traveled to a state-wide tournament together to compete. We did pretty well, I got 13th out of 40-50 and one of our guys got 4th. I will post video ASAP.
I was happy with my play for the most part, the only big mistake I made was thinking I could push around Luis’ Sagat (I don’t know why that is stuck in my head, maybe because he was so bad when I first met him) but up till then I was on point. Nothing worse than blowing a tournament because you were jsut having an off day or the pressure got to you, so I was glad that didn’t happen.
Here's a cool Halloween / Michael Meyers customized arcade stick from the tournament.
Also it was fun just because it was a road-trip, and I feel like I know the guys I traveled with a little more than I did before.
When I got home it was time to watch UFC with Jose! I have been missing watching fights at his house lately so this was long overdue. BJ Penn and Kenny Florian won as I predicted.
After UFC Mike, Brian, Cody and me went sledding at the park which was ridiculously fun. We hit a few jumps on the way down the hill, and I even got to test my frisbee theory (…that you can sled down a hill on all fours using only four frisbees.)
The body of UFCs Evan Tanner was found yesterday. He had apparently died of exposure after running out of gas and water on a camping trip alone, deep in the desert.
Spring is here, and a 4 mile run never felt so good.
It’s the least I could do since I missed jiu-jitsu last week. That technically broke one of my resolutions (to go each week unless I had a good reason) but thankfully the spirit of the resolution lives on and I will still go more often than previously.
A pretty positive experience, I had a lot of fun (which is why I do it). Got to beat a guy, got to do a sweet flying armbar. And I did things how they ought to be done, so I wouldn’t feel like apologizing to anyone afterwards (unlike one of the guys I fought).
No medals this year.
Oh, and the best part was after really busting my hump to make cruiser-weight, I weighed in at 195.5 (clothes on) which is a new personal best, down from 223. (This new years resolution is working out pretty well)
Also good was that my chiropractor fixed me up very well so that my recent neck thing was a total non-factor.
The only thing I would have changed is the MAJOR overcrowding problem. I’m no stranger to conventions but this was ridiculous. And going to the bathroom was like visiting a stadium full of Katrina survivors.
I would have maybe liked checking out some more of the convention too, I kind of rushed out to get home in time to watch UFC with my boys.
(and I suppose I could have done without the bruised ribs, heh)
I’ll post video later, got to rehydrate now from cutting weight.
This is what happens when you don’t provide enough room for people and their shit. It’s a pile of shit and people.
1 – Stupid vertigo seems to be improving a lot. I even made it through a whole class without it bothering me enough to stop! (That’s saying a lot considering I don’t always make it through a whole class when I’m well, but I was pissed off at it this time) I knew that shit would go away without a useless doctor!
B – Choked a guy unconscious in class, and brought him back using Kappo. That was the first time I’ve done that myself as the last time I ever choked someone unconscious was in Judo years ago and the instructor was 3 feet away to revive them. I was very happy to find I didn’t panic or anything and just did exactly what I was supposed to do and he woke up fine. (They usually do anyway, but I still did everything right)
III - Got home and did my weekly weigh in. For the first time in god knows how long, I dipped below 200 lbs (I was 223 lbs at my last tournament). I’m 199 lbs. Go New Years Resolution!!!! (I’m sure this was in no small part due to BJJ, as much as eating habits)
