Best week ever

September 22nd, 2008

Ok, technically it’s the best weekend ever.

  • Non-profit brainstorm
  • Got to watch a (DVR) UFC fight with Jose
  • Got Gert vaccinated now that I have money
  • Pagan festival
  • Yesterdog
  • Street party
  • Pub-crawl
  • Received certificate in the mail
  • And I even found where I could buy one of those Obama yard-signs I’ve been looking for.

Seriously couldn’t get much better.

Shout out to the Athens Judo Club

September 11th, 2008

Just a shout out to the Athens Judo Club, who I’m told haven’t forgotten me. Thanks for everything guys, including the nickname.

If you’re wondering if I remained “Gumby Dammit” in my old age, here’s a trip down memory lane: Shoulder 360 from a keylock!

I was promoted to Shodan by my old Judo professor today!

Evan Tanner Dead

September 9th, 2008

The body of UFCs Evan Tanner was found yesterday. He had apparently died of exposure after running out of gas and water on a camping trip alone, deep in the desert.

RIP Evan

Whew

March 30th, 2008

Spring is here, and a 4 mile run never felt so good.

It’s the least I could do since I missed jiu-jitsu last week. That technically broke one of my resolutions (to go each week unless I had a good reason) but thankfully the spirit of the resolution lives on and I will still go more often than previously.

Haircut

March 18th, 2008

I think I’m going to shave my head again…

Emo-bangs were a fun trip back to my High school days, but alas, I remember how annoying it is to have to fix my hair again.

Not to mention how annoying it is to grapple with hair in jiu-jitsu.

2008 Arnold Grappling Championships

March 4th, 2008

A pretty positive experience, I had a lot of fun (which is why I do it). Got to beat a guy, got to do a sweet flying armbar. And I did things how they ought to be done, so I wouldn’t feel like apologizing to anyone afterwards (unlike one of the guys I fought).

No medals this year.

Oh, and the best part was after really busting my hump to make cruiser-weight, I weighed in at 195.5 (clothes on) which is a new personal best, down from 223. (This new years resolution is working out pretty well)

Also good was that my chiropractor fixed me up very well so that my recent neck thing was a total non-factor.

The only thing I would have changed is the MAJOR overcrowding problem. I’m no stranger to conventions but this was ridiculous. And going to the bathroom was like visiting a stadium full of Katrina survivors.

I would have maybe liked checking out some more of the convention too, I kind of rushed out to get home in time to watch UFC with my boys.

(and I suppose I could have done without the bruised ribs, heh)

I’ll post video later, got to rehydrate now from cutting weight.

Over-crowding

This is what happens when you don’t provide enough room for people and their shit. It’s a pile of shit and people.

Signed up for the Arnolds

February 19th, 2008

I just signed up to compete on 03/01/08.

Wish me luck.

Happy New Year!

2007 Great Lakes Open

June 9th, 2007

I look forward to it all year because they allow more leglocks than other tournys.
2 days before the tourney they announce no leglocks.
Bleh.
No medal this year (I got 2nd last yr), but at least I had a really good match before being eliminated.
For the first time ever, I taped it:
